Strike: JIBWIS, Olubadan urge FG, ASUU to resolve differences

The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sundayday, called on the federal government and Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) to resolve their differences and called off the ongoing strike.

The Chairman, Ulama’u Council of the group, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, made the call at the closing of the 29th 3-day pre-Ramadan seminar themed: “Good governance and the best approach to public security” held in Jos.

Sheikh Jingir said the federal government on its part should do all things possible to resolve the impasses between it and ASUU to end the strike.

He said: “It is not right for President Muhammadu Buhari and other stakeholders to keep quiet and allow the strike action to continue.  As a leader, when people erred, you should correct them for the sake of Allah.

“We, therefore, urge the FG to ensure quick resolution of the lingering issues between it and the ASUU to enable students to resume classes,” he added.

Similarly, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has called on all stakeholders in the education sector to intervene in the ongoing strike embarked upon by the ASUU towards a quick resolution of the logjam.

Olubadan made the appeal during the courtesy call paid on him at his Alarere palace by the executive members of the Conference of Alumni Association of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) led by its Chairman, Prof. Ahmed Tijani Mora.

“In whatever we do in life, time is of the essence and there has not been a mechanism to redeem any time lost, which is why all the parties involved in this current imbroglio must reach a compromise and end it for the sake of the children and their traumatised parents,” he added.
