The Chairman, Senate Services Committee and a frontline aspirant for the National Chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress, Niger East, Senator Sani Musa, has withdrawn from the race.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, the senator gave reason for his withdrawal from the race. He also speculated that the other five aspirants who withdrew from the race shared his opinion.

Sani Musa stated that although it was a difficult decision, he did it for the unity of the party.
He said, “It was a very difficult decision for somebody like me because I knew the kind of popularity and followership that I had; but foremost, the interest of the party is number one.
“The supremacy of the party is important because we all subscribed to be members and we stated that we will abide by what the party comes up with.”
While it has been in the news that President Muhammadu Buhari wants his ally and staunch supporter, Abdullahi Adamu, as All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Sani Musa noted that he, alongside the five aspirants who withdrew from the race, had thrown their weight behind Adamu.
He said, “In my past interviews, I have always said that whatever the leader of the party who is the president of this country says; for the respect of his person, for the respect of his office, there is nothing he would ask of me that would be difficult for me to deliver.
“My followers believe in that too because we need unity in this country. The party itself is at a crossroads, I would not want to be another party that would add to the issues that are already in the party.
“We want to bring the party together; we want to build a united party that will face the opposition and opposing parties because the next general election is around the corner.
“I don’t see why my personal interest should override that of the party that is trying to create unity. I believe all others did the same. The unity of the party is greater than our collective or individual ambition. We all collectively agreed that we should unite and give Abdullahi the chance.
“You can see what is happening in the opposition about their zonal arrangements; we do not want to fall into that trap. We want a situation whereby APC will come out strong. This is the reason why I feel that the consensus can have its way. But it does not mean that those that are opposed to it cannot have their say.”
