We treated 13,000 IDPs suffering psycho trauma disorders from insurgency – CMD

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) has disclosed that it has treated and stabilised a total of 13,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who suffered psycho trauma disorders due to the 12-year old Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD), FNPH, Prof. Amadu Wakawa made this disclosure when taking delivery of a 500kva generator set donated to the hospital by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Maiduguri on Thursday.

He noted that a decade of insurgency affected the mental health and wellness of the region as more than 150,000 patients had been treated since the inception of the hospital.

He lamented the high rate of drugs addicts in the region and appealed to NEDC to support the hospital with a rehabilitation centre to complement the existing ones.

In his brief remarks, the Managing Director of NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali appreciated the efforts of Neuro-Psychiatric hospital and pledged to work with the hospital to achieve its mandates and improve its capabilities.

Alkali, who was represented by the General Manager Operations, NEDC, Engr Waziri Haruna, said the commission was in top gear to establish 40-bed rehabilitation centres in all the states of the North-East.
