The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has disclosed that the Federal Government will build pedestrian bridges at the entrance gates of Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), both in Kano state.
He stated this in Kano while commissioning some newly completed road projects at the hospital and the school.
The Minister, who was represented by the Federal Controller of Works in the state, Engr. Yahaya Baba-Ali, also said the bridges to be built along Zaria Road and Gwarzo Road respectively will help reduce accident rates near them.
Fashola said, “While it is true that a lot of work needs to be done in many sectors of our national life, including education, the Buhari administration has stepped up to lead the process of getting that done.
“The gap of infrastructure needs is steadily being bridged by a gradual process if repairs, renewal and construction of major highways and has reached schools/institutions.
“We have successfully intervened in the internal road networks of 46 federal tertiary institutions and handed over 29 as at 2021, and we now have another 17 ready to be handed over, while we are currently attending to 30 roads in similar institutions across the country, making a total of 76,” the Minister added.
Speaking on behalf of the hospital, the AKTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe, said the road will provide easy access for patients to seek treatment in different parts of the hospital.
Similarly, the BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, thanked the Ministry for completing the project in just two months after the university’s request.
He also said the Ministry has secured and installed a 7.5KVA and 5.0KVA transformers, which he said will soon address power problem in the institution.
Daily Trust reports that the AKTH internal road is 1.06KMs long, while that of BUK is 1.6kms long.
