As part of the event, Timi Dakolo sang one of his songs titled ‘Great Nation’ and this has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerian tweeps. While some criticized the singer, some defended him by say he was just doing his job and not endorsing the politician.
Via the Twitter handle, @novieverest opined, “If you collect N5m money to sing for a candidate that you don’t trust, you are not different from the poor man or woman that collects N5k to vote too. We have to stand upright in this country. You support Timi Dakolo, but you berate ‘Pastor’ Taribo West.”(sic)
Also taking to the microblogging site, the Twitter user, @mamatee001 wrote, “Timi DAKOLO sings at ATIKU declaration. D sickle cell anemia and yahooyahoo pastor omokirikiri remains mute. D dwarf RINU sees nothing bad but just TARIBO prayer for TINUBU, their entire pants were messed with igbe olomi on SUNDAY!! E ni kure ooo!!!!”(sic)
The Twitter user, @tee_classiquem1, further expressing views on the singer’s action tweeted, “If you don’t have any problem with Timi Dakolo performing for Atiku, don’t come here tomorrow and rant on the TL if another musician is performing at Tinubu occasion, not like PDP & APC are in any way better than each other, it was their collective effort that put us in this mess. These are people we all agreed to say NO to APC and PDP in 2020 during the #EndSARS campaign, 2 years later everyone is acting the other way round.”
Meanwhile, pondering on the situation, @the_davidatta said, “Why is it okay for Timi Dakolo to sing for Atiku but not pm for Kanu Nwankwo to play football for Tinubu.? Honest, serious question.”
@jeffphilips1 believes the singer performed at the presidential declaration because he is hungry. He said, “timidakolo is hungry and needs food, don’t drag him please”(sic)
Also, @sports_doctor2 said, “Timi Dakolo is a singer and he just did his job by singing at Atiku’s presidential declaration. Taribo West is a pastor and he just did his job of praying when they visited Tinubu. Don’t support one and criticize the other, they both left with brown envelopes.”
@harmus14 stated that the singer was only doing his job. He said, “Why are people calling out Timi Dakolo for singing at a political gathering. Am not sure if he changed career, the last I know he’s a singer, and a good one indeed. So if his called for a gig, he should reject it because of drags, how will he pay his bills?”
