A former acting Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Danjuma Maiwada, has died at the age of 70.
Maiwada, who briefly served as an acting VC of BUK in 2004, hailed from Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State but spent most of his life in Kano lecturing in the university since 1976 at the Faculty of Education.
In 2015, he also served as an acting Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano now called Yusuf Maitama Sule University.
He was an authority in Adult and Islamic Education and taught a long list of academicians including the current VC of the university, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas.
The late educationist retired from the university this year and on February 10 delivered his valedictory lecture, an event that was well attended.
He died on Tuesday after a brief illness and was survived by wife and nine children.
He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The current VC, Abbas, who was at the funeral described Maiwada “as a very simple, kind person, who was committed to his job.”
He also described him as one of the very best mentors for academics within and outside the university, who was always ready to assist his younger ones.
