Buhari condemns attacks on Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo’s leader’s home, police assets

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned as “deeply distressing” the destruction of buildings and assets of the police and the home of Professor George Obiozor, the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Imo State.

The president, in a statement issued Sunday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, sympathised with Professor Obiozor who he referred to as a leading voice of moderation in the affairs of the country.

He urged him to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of the federation against these senseless terrorists.

President Buhari, who also sympathised with the police authorities over the losses of men and materials, flayed the violence in the South East.

The president, who said the law and order capabilities in the Southeast were being strengthened, called on the people of Imo State in particular and the sub-region, in general, to maintain peace as the police and other agencies were working to ensure that normalcy was restored at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has also condemned the attack on the house of Prof. Obiozor.

In a statement he personally signed, Uzodinma said the attack was perpetrated by the “political bandits” and expressed regret that desperate politicians who believed in violence were yet to sheathe their swords in spite of the repeated appeals to that effect.

He vowed that the government was already working in concert with security agencies to identify and punish the perpetrators.

Uzodinma wondered why the bandits should attack the home of a man who is not a politician but a statesman working for the good of the entire Igbo race.
