A three-time gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has joined the race for Ogun West Senatorial seat in 2023 election, saying his local knowledge and experience place him above other aspirants.
Isiaka popularly known as GNI spoke in Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government, during the inauguration of his canvassers picked from all the 59 wards in Ogun West.
He had contested for governorship seat in 2011, 2015 and 2019 respectively on the platforms of Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Isiaka shortly after the 2019 gubernatorial polls, which he lost to Governor Dapo Abiodun, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He told newsmen that the Senatorial bid was an extension of his aspiration to serve the people of the state.
“I basically want to say it is still an extension of me wanting to serve my people and I have attempted to govern the state. That aspiration we are keeping aside at this time because we know that at this time, clearly, we have a governor that is duly entitled to a second term and we feel he is going to talk about that sometimes soon.
“To that extent, we feel the Senate seat of Ogun West is one area where we can still offer our service, particularly having known so much the need of our people, having known so much about the nooks and crannies of the state. We feel that all of these knowledge, the information, the passion and the zeal that we have for our people, where it can be useful now is the Senate seat of Ogun West,” Isiaka said.
He identified road infrastructure as one of the major challenges confronting Ogun West region, saying he would require “lobbying and shouting” to fix the deplorable infrastructure in the area.
He said “What we lack most in Ogun West is road. If we have road there will be opportunity to market so many things. There are land for people to do quite a number of things but for lack of good roads…
“So, we will combine our zeal to attract the development of infrastructure and investment to develop the area.
“Well, it can only be better. Anybody that has passed through National Assembly from Ogun West, they have tried their best but like they said the beautiful one are yet to be born. So, it can only be better. What I want to come and do it to make it better.
“I terms of somebody that has the opportunity to drive the economy of the state by way of the investment drive of the State, and also have the opportunity to have run in state three times consecutively I would say that in terms of local knowledge, information and capacity about the place, I will say I have it.”
