A non-governmental organization, One Nigeria Project, has called on Nigerians to eschew sectionalism and marginalization while embracing unity and oneness to support Igbo presidency in the 2023 forthcoming general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the president of the organisation, Engr. Jarvis Jakpa, said marginalisation, domination and exclusion will become apparent and create ample room for divisiveness and eventual disintegration of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He said, “It’s against this backdrop that One Nigeria Project is embarking on a nationwide campaign for an Igbo presidency come 2023, to forestall a likely disintegration of our beloved country Nigeria.’’
The NGO said its advocacy for Igbo president comes 2023 is a recipe for a continued one Nigeria with the fact that since the advent of democratic rule in 1999 all sections of the country has had a shot at the presidency except the Igbo nation.
He said, “The North, South and West have at one time or the other been at the helm of affairs in the government if the nation leaves the Igbos out of the equation. This has raised several salient questions: are the Igbos not part of the Nigerian nation? Do the Igbos have the capacity to rule? Don’t they have a say in the political equation in Nigeria?’’
The organization stated that unless the imbalance is resolved and the Igbos are given a shot at the presidency the claim of which is believed they do and that they have the capacity and very well to do in all fields of endeavor worldwide.
It also decried how some societal aberrations plunged the country into the poverty capital of the world presently with the majority of the masses living in abject poverty which consequently gave birth to many social vices being experienced in the country.
