The National Judicial Council has warned two judges and placed one on a watch list over misconduct.

Judges Muawiyah Baba Idris of the FCT High Court and Mohammed Ladan of the Kaduna State High Court were issued with the warnings; while Idris was placed on a watch list for a period of one year.

The NJC, at its 97th meeting on March 15 and 16 under the chairmanship of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, also recommended the appointment of six heads of courts and nine judicial officers for Federal and State High Courts, according to a statement yesterday by the Director of Information, Soji Oye.

Justice Idris was indicted for signing the Writ of Possession for execution on the same day he delivered judgment in the case between Sicons Nigeria Ltd V Nile Place Restaurant and Catering Services Ltd. The suit was for the recovery of demised property.

For Justice Ladan, the NJC “found merit in the petition written against him in the case between VTLS Inc. and Ahmadu Bello University. He signed the Writ of Attachment while the Garnishee Order Nisi was pending.”

The council considered the list of candidates presented by its interview committee and recommended 15 judges to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointment.

They are Chief Judge David Gwong Mann (Plateau), Chief Judge Joseph Ahmed Awak (Gombe), Grand Kadi Abdulrahman Umar Abubakar (Kaduna), Kadi Abdurrahman Umar Abubakar (Kaduna), Kadi Shuaibu Dahiru Ahmad (Taraba), President Customary Court of Appeal Ihemnacho Wilfred Obuzor (Rivers) and President Customary Court of Appeal Sampson Mbeh Anjor (Cross River), Sallau Ismaila Madugu (Taraba) and Judge Customary Court of Appeal Bulus Samuelson Nyiputen (Taraba).
