The Chairman of Nigeria Optometric Association in Cross River State, Dr Onyebuchi Ndukwe, has said that over two million Nigerians are suffering from glaucoma.
Out of this number, he said 1.8 million do not know that they have the disease, an eye disorder that causes impairment.

He spoke to journalists yesterday in Calabar to mark World Glaucoma Week (WGW).
“Globally, it is estimated that about 78 million people have glaucoma and this number is expected to rise to 101 million by 2030,” he said.
Ndukwe said whenever one notices any changes in one’s vision like blurriness or begins to bump into objects while trying to move around, there is a need to check the eyes.
He advised regular screening of the eyes as many people are at a higher risk of contracting glaucoma.
