A monarch in Bayelsa State, the Amayanabo of Opu-Nembe Kingdom, King Biobelemoye Josiah, Ogbodo VIII, Tuesday, charged the State governor, Douye Diri, to complete all unfinished people-oriented projects embarked upon by the past administrations.
The monarch also advised the governor to demonstrate his “broad-minded” attitude and embrace a brand of politics devoid of bitterness, a slogan adopted by the defunct Great Nigeria Peoples Party (GNPP) leader, late Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri.
King Josiah, who doubles as the National President of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), in a statement made available in Abuja, appealed to Diri to ensure he completes and commission the Nembe Unity Bridge, linking Bassambiri and Ogbolomabiri Communities, in Opu-Nembe and Nembe-City Kingdoms within the brief two years of his administration.
He also commended the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as “Evergreen ex-President of Nigeria”: for honouring him and his Kingdom by paying him a visit before proceeding to the site of the Commissioning.
The paramount ruler also hailed Diri’s inclusive governance style, while urging him not to relent.
The MHWUN President said, “The bridge, which has been constructed for more than ten years, will not only solidify the peaceful coexistence between Opu-Nembe and Nembe City Kingdoms but will help boost commercial activities.”
Daily Trust reports that Diri led top government functionaries to the Nembe Unity Bridge on Monday, February 28 where former President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the project to the delight of the two ancient kingdoms of Olodiàmà and Òbòlòàmà (now; Opu-Nembe kingdom and the Nembe-City Kingdom respectively).
