Two civil society organizations (CSOs) on Monday clashed in Abuja over  protests for and against the call for the sack of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.

The Centre for Leadership Advocacy and Good Governance (CLAGG) in collaboration with the Coalition of CSOs protested against those opposing Dr. Yemi-Esan.

Also, another group under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Societies for Equity, Justice and Good Governance, held a separate rally calling for the sack of the HoCSF.

The leaders of the Coalition, Comrade Bilal Abdullahi Bilal and Ambassador Richard Augustine, urged the Federal Government to resist attempts to return the civil service to the days of redundancy.

According to him, the government should rather support the HoCSF, to continue with her reform of the civil service.

Abdullahi said that though they are committed in monitoring government activities, they will not support a group that don’t want civil service reform.

“We use this opportunity to appreciate, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the support he is giving to Public Sector reforms. Therefore, we refuse and will resist in its entirety, any calculated act to return the civil service to the days of redundancy and an all-comers club of mediocre clueless and self-aggrandizing leadership.

“We condemned the counter-productive and staged protest of the group in question. The Centre for Leadership Advocacy and Good Governance in Collaboration with Coalition of Civil Society Organizations remain committed to monitoring the programmes and activities of the administration in the public sector and we will continue to play our role in ensuring that public services and interventions by Government at all levels have the positive impacts on Nigerians,” he said.

The group said they are convinced that this time around, the administration of President Buhari has put in place a leadership in the Civil Service that has a vision.

He said, “The resend leadership in the civil service is sincere and means well for civil servants. Look at the unprecedented initiatives and laudable plans in the service today. There is so much excitement in the service because, civil servants.

“As stakeholders and watchdogs over the activities of government, especially as they pertain to formulation and implementation of policies and projects, we completely dissociate ourselves from this roller-coaster protest, as we are struggling to understand or reconcile the alleged bone of contention with what the coalition in question purportedly stands for.”

He also said that one would have expected the group to substantiate its rather very sensational and inciting claims with proof of alleged racketeering, corruption or abuse of office instead of ranting over unsubstantiated points.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to join the cause for a better Nigeria, especially that the administration of President Buhari has put in place a leadership in the Civil Service that has a vision, is sincere and means well for civil servants.

In an earlier protest, Comrade Danesi Momoh, of the Coalition of Civil Societies for Equity, Justice and Good Governance, said that Yemi-Esan should resign or be sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari for undermining the quest to reduce unemployment in the country and also for under-hand and illegal recruitment.
