The Russia-Ukraine war, which started on February, has entered 12th day and below are five key events that have played out during the war.

Evacuation
Countries across the globe are working round the clock to ensure that they evacuate their citizens from war-torn Ukraine. Out of about 5600 Nigerians, the majority of whom are students, Nigeria has evacuated 256 nationals seeking refuge in Romania, Hungary and Poland.

On Friday, the first batch of 450 Nigerians stranded in Ukraine arrived aboard Max Air flight 747 at 7:10 a.m. through Romania.

Sanctions
Sanctions on a number of services have been imposed to force Russia forces out of Ukraine.
To achieve this, the West has frozen the assets of Russia’s Central Bank, limiting its ability to access $630bn (£470bn) of its dollar reserves.

The US, EU, and the UK have also banned people and businesses from dealing with the Russian Central Bank, its finance ministry, and its wealth fund.

Card payment giants — Visa and MasterCard — have joined the growing list of international brands refusing to do business with Russia.

Refugee
As the war surged, more people fled Ukraine. So far, more than 1.5 million people have fled the country into neighbouring countries. This may lead to humanitarian crises around the border.

Peace talk move
Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine resumed on Thursday, but after several hours of negotiations, the countries are yet to reach a cease-fire agreement.
Russia’s foreign minister said they would continue to insist that any peace agreement with Ukraine must include a promise that Ukraine will “demilitarize.”

Israel PM’s visit to Putin
Israel’s Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, met with President Putin for a three-hour face-to-face talk. Bennett later met with Zelenskyy.
