Almajiri: Foundation to introduce western education, skills acquisition in Tsangaya schools

The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) has disclosed plans to introduce western education and skill acquisition programmes to Tsangaya schools across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State.

The Director General (DG) and Chief Executive Officer, SABMF, Engineer Abubakar Umar, while speaking at a one-day focused group discussion with teachers of Tsangaya schools in Kaduna on the challenges of the almajiri system in Northern Nigeria, said the initiative will be test-run to reduce the number of hours the Almajiri spend outside Tsangaya.

The DG said the foundation in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation is working towards identifying a mechanism that will help take the almajiri children from the streets and engage them positively.
