After Daily Trust Report, Visually Impaired Orphan Gets WAEC, NECO Fees

A visually impaired orphan, Dorcas Mseer, has finally got financial support to pay for her WAEC, NECO and school fees a day after Daily Trust reported about her plight.

Mseer, an SS3 student at Special School for Exceptional Children, Alaide, in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, became stranded in December after fraudsters under the pretext of helping her withdraw money from a Union Bank Automated Teller Machine in Gboko emptied her account, taking away N143,500 meant for her examinations.

Daily Trust on Saturday reported that Mseer needed urgent intervention to pay her school fee and register for the examinations in order to meet up with the deadlines.

Fortune eventually smiled the way of the 21-year-old when the Borno State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Empowerment, Saina Buba, contacted her on Sunday and paid the fees.

The elated Mseer told our correspondent in Makurdi that she was overwhelmed by the commissioner’s gesture.

“God will bless him. God will continue to bless all his family members. I’m overwhelmed with joy. I’m in church as we speak and I will continue to pray for everyone who had heard and responded to my passionate plea,” Mseer said.

The breakdown of the money needed by the student includes: WAEC, N35,750; late registration, N10,000; NECO, N33,500; braille for special candidate, N47,000; school fees, N43,000, bringing the total amount to about N168,250.

Meanwhile, Barrister Antaav Kume, a humanitarian activist, who brought the student’s plight to the public, told our correspondent that the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, had shown interest, while other good spirited individuals also made donations.
