2022 Lagos Polo: Navy pledge to promote, support Nigerian Polo

The Nigerian Navy has thrown its backing to the promotion and development of the noble game of kings in the country, across the continent and globally.

 Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo made this commitment over the weekend during the final weekend of the prestigious 2022 Lagos international polo tournament that climaxed with fanfare last Sunday.

Vice Admiral Gambo, who was the Special Guest of Honour during the finals, stated that from now henceforth, the Nigerian Navy has decided to partner the Lagos Polo club and all stakeholders to depend on the popularity of the noble game within rank and file of the military and among the Nigerian youths.

He lauded the Lagos Polo Club founded in the early 1900s for its unalloyed commitment to the promotion of the noble game of polo that has positively impacted the promotion of the game around the country.

The Naval boss who went memory lane to confirmed to the crowd that the king of games was introduced into the country by officers of the British Navy way back in 1904, donated a cup to be contested for annually at subsequent Lagos polo tournaments.

“Let me make this very clear, from now henceforth, the Nigerian navy is prepared to partner the Lagos Polo Club and other clubs across the country in the promotion of the noble game which is one of the major drivers for tourism and international diplomacy, “he added.
