Dutum Construction Company Ltd has launched a capacity development initiative, called the Dutum Internship Academy Programme

The initiative is designed to produce skilled professionals in a wide range of departments connected to the construction industry.

Through the initiative, young, talented members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will have the opportunity to acquire hands-on training and practical exposure to the construction industry and a possibility to kick start their careers.

Successful intakes to the programme will work with professionals in Civil and Structural Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and IT to have hands-on knowledge of the workings of the construction industry.

The Managing Director of Dutum Company Ltd, Mr Temitope Runsewe, said capacity development initiatives such as this provides opportunities for the construction industry to improve the quality of service.

He added that widespread knowledge of global best practices in construction could help reduce building collapses and defects.

“We have seen how knowledge sharing and capacity development initiatives in Tech are helping to create a culture of excellence; our goal is to replicate this in the construction industry.

“We intend to work with our partners in the construction industry to provide learning and mentorship opportunities for those who are considering the industry for careers.

“We believe this will have huge multiplier effects on the economy in the long run,” he said.

Runsewe noted that the Internship Academy Programme would help address the unemployment crisis and skills mismatch in Nigeria, especially among youths.
