Court convicts 3 internet fraudsters in Oyo

Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday convicted the trio of Elegushi Mumuni Abiodun, Abdullahi Umar Faruq and Abiola Gabriel Oladimeji, over internet fraud.

Justice Agomoh, who ruled on the case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the suit bordering on impersonation is contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act 2015 and punishable under the same section.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them by the EFCC and the prosecution counsel urged the court to convict them as charged.

Justice Agomoh sentenced Abiodun to seven months’ imprisonment; Faruq, 18 months’ and Oladimeji 9 months.
