2 remanded for attacking Ogun high chief

A magistrate court in Ota, Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Tuesday remanded two persons in correctional centre for allegedly attacking the Baale (village head) of Adekoyeni village, Shodiya Tajudeen.

 The suspects were arraigned before Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi on a two-count charge of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit felony.

The prosecuting officer, SP Beyioku Kehinde, told the court that the defendants with others still at large, on January 11, 2022, allegedly attacked Shodiya, who is also an Egba High Chief, with weapons at Adekoyeni village in Atan-Ota, Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

 He explained further that the suspects inflicted machete injuries on the victim after which they poured petrol on him and were about to set him ablaze.

 The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened sections 320 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.

 Counsel to the complainant, Saidi Yinusa, sought an order of the court to remand the respondents for 60 days at the correctional centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and arraignment of the respondents in competent court of jurisdiction.

Yinusa also submitted a four-paragraph written address to be adopted as his legal argument for the case.

 Delivering her ruling, Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi ordered that the defendants be remanded at Ibara correctional facility in Abeokuta, the state capital, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

 She adjourned the case until May 2, 2022 for further hearing.
