Gombe Utd appeal N2.5m fine for alleged attack on Plateau United

Gombe United have appealed against the fine of N2.5m slammed on them by the League Management Company (LMC) on the allegation that their fans had attacked Plateau United in Gombe.

After their NPFL Week 14 match ended in a 1-1 draw, visiting Plateau United alleged that they were attacked by supporters of Gombe United who broke the glass of their bus and injured an official of the club in the process.

Gombe United immediately denied the allegation and insisted that what was contained in the video released by Plateau United was from an accident that happened far away from the Pantami stadium.

However, the LMC on Saturday slammed a fine of N2.5m on Gombe United for failure to provide adequate security, failure to ensure restriction of access to unauthorised persons to restricted areas, encroachment on the field of play and harassment of match officials.

In addition, Gombe United will play their next home match behind closed doors.

Gombe United was given the option to accept the decision of the LMC or go on appeal within 48 hours.

Therefore, the chairman of the club, Dr. Larry Daniel Terry who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday said Gombe United have appealed the decision by the LMC.

He said fans of Gombe United didn’t attack Plateau United just as he called on the LMC to review its decision.

“We were given the option to appeal the decision so we have appealed. We maintain our position on the matter. Our fans didn’t attack Plateau United.

“We had drawn two matches at home but nothing happened to the other teams so why should the case of Plateau United be different?” he asked.

Larry is therefore confident that the fine against his club will either be dropped or reduced.
