Osinbajo in Tanzania, to speak at African Court today

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be the special guest at the opening of the 2022 legal year of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights in Arusha Tanzania on February 28.

In a statement by the Registrar of the court, Dr Robert Eno on Saturday said the theme of the solemn ceremony will be ‘The African Court and the Africa we want’, and will feature speeches from human rights stakeholders from across the continent and beyond.

According to Eno, the ceremony will also be attended by representatives of member states, regional and sub-regional courts, African Union organs with a human rights mandate, African Union Ambassadors accredited to Tanzania, members of the judicial corps of Tanzania, representatives of Bar associations, civil society organisations, members of the academia and other stakeholders involved in the work of the court and the protection of human rights on the continent.

The African Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of member states of the African Union elected in their individual capacity. The court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.

Osinbajo was also at the opening of the court’s 62nd Session in Arusha, Tanzania, on September 6, 2021 when the court delivered major decisions.
