Bandits kill 7, injure student travelling for JAMB in Kaduna

Bandits on Friday killed seven people at Unguwar Bula, Unguwar Dafillo and Ijinga villages in the Randagi district of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The chairman of Birnin Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, in a statement, noted that the bandits, on motorcycles numbering about 50, attacked the communities around 11am and seized them for four hours, thereby preventing the people from holding Juma’at prayers.

It was gathered that an undisclosed number of persons, many of them women, were equally abducted and taken to an unknown destination by the attackers.

A resident of Randagi who craved for anonymity said two of his relatives were among those killed.

Similarly, a final year student of Science Secondary School, Birnin-Gwari, escaped with bullet wounds on his shoulder in an attack on Saturday.

He was on his way to register for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB-UTME) in Kaduna.

The bandits rained bullets on the vehicle conveying the student and other passengers at Manini village after Kuriga along Birnin-Gwari Kaduna highway. The student was rushed to a hospital for surgery.

The chairman of the local government, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, who confirmed the attacks to Daily Trust on Sunday, said only two people were brought from the Randagi area and one of them later died in the hospital.

“The bandits were on transits from Zamfara because of the ongoing military operations against them, so they attacked the communities. Two people were brought to the hospital from the area and one died on Saturday,” she said.

She said the injured student would undergo surgery at the hospital to have the bullets removed, adding that the council was making arrangements to see that students from Birnin Gwari won’t have to travel to Kaduna for JAMB–UMTE registration.
