The residents of Sabon Garin Malam Yahuza, in Batagarawa Local Government of Katsina State, have protested against what they called the ineptitude of the operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) as gunmen attacked the community killing one person.
The attack was carried out some metres away from the checkpoint mounted by the NSCDC personnel, close to their training school in the Katsina metropolis.
“The attackers came around 2:00 am on Wednesday, and started shooting sporadically at the residence of Alhaji Abu Mai Bulawus, who was a businessman, and as you can see, it is not up to 100 metres away from the training school, but these people (NSCDC personnel) did to even make attempt to fire their guns at least to scare the attackers away.
“They operated for about 30 minutes in the house and then attempted to kidnap the late businessman, but when he refused to go with them, they shot him and left unchallenged,” a resident told our reporter.
The resident added that the Divisional Police Officer of Batagarawa was there with his men after the attackers had already fled the scene.
Daily Trust gathered that after they shot the businessman, the assailants fled the scene and left him bleeding but residents tried to take him to the hospital, sadly, he died on the way.
At the residence of the deceased, our reporter gathered that he was already laid to rest and mourners were seen condoling with the family.
Residents claimed that this was not the first time bandits were attacking the community but they got little or no help from the NSCDC operatives.
However, when our reporter visited the community, both the state commandant and the Provost of the training school were on the ground to console the protesters who already burnt down the NSCDC checkpoint.
Though they did not officially speak to pressmen, they were overheard telling the angry protesters that they were making frantic efforts to mobilize other security agents for reinforcement as there were only two men at the checkpoint during the attack.
