Abductors of community leader’s wife, daughters demand N50m ransom

The abductors of the wives and daughters of, Malam Ibrahim Tanko, Sarkin Hausawa of Anguwar Azara in Jere, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway have demanded N50 million ransom before the victims will be set free.

Tanko, who disclosed this through a telephone conversation with our reporter on Sunday, said the kidnappers called through the phone of one of his palace aides on Saturday, around 11:23 am in which the kidnappers demanded the ransom.
He said the kidnappers asked him to go and source the money and bring it to them so that his wife and four daughters who are being held captive will be set free.
“And I told them that where can I get N50 million, in which one of them now said I should go source for the money so that they will release my wives and daughters back to me,” he said.
The community leader said he told the bandits that he will consult with his relatives and other family members in order to see how much he can raise, even as he said the bandits later switched off the phone and he could no longer reach them.
“Immediately after they talked about the ransom, they switched off the phone and I have not been able to reach them since Saturday morning till now,” he said.
Daily trust, had reported that bandits had last Wednesday, raided the residence of the community leader and abducted his two wives and four daughters, but one of the wives was later released after the bandits realised that the victim suffers from high blood pressure.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, was yet to pick calls or reply to text messages on his phone about the ransom demand.
