FCT poll: Why APC lost AMAC – Party leader

Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT, Alhaji Zakari Angulu Dobi, has said failure by stakeholders of the party in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to resolve their differences led to the party’s defeat in the council election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is the leading opposition party in the country won three of the six area councils including AMAC, in last Saturday’s election while the ruling APC won the remaining three.

Dobi, who spoke with Daily Trust yesterday in Abuja, said despite intervention of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, APC stakeholders in AMAC refused to sheathe their swords, leading to the party’s defeat at the poll.

Dobi, a former House of Representatives member for Abuja South Federal Constituency said, “I expected the leaders of APC in AMAC to come together; keep aside all their differences and work for the party’s interest first.

“There was a meeting in which the SGF tried to bring AMAC stakeholders together on the need to forgive each other.”

He, however, said APC’s defeat in AMAC was not a setback to the party in the FCT.
