Kogi State Government has approved the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage for the State and local governments’ workers.

The state government approved the implementation of the new wage regime for state workers with immediate effect, and with partial consequential adjustment.

The Secretary to the State Government, Folashade Arike Ayoade, disclosed this on Tuesday after an extensive meeting with the labour union leaders in Lokoja.

She said the delay in the implementation was due to the inability of the committee to meet regularly due to the global COVID-19 pandemic which took the world by storm.

Mrs Ayoade therefore commended the Organized Labour for its understanding and patience all this while which had resulted in the signing of the implementation of the new minimum wage .

Meanwhile, the state’s Head of Civil Service, Hannah Odiyo, said with singing of the agreement on the new national minimum wage, the committee had completed its work peacefully without recourse to strike action.

In the same vein, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Onuh Edoka, said the State’s civil servants have been brought to the same level with thier counterparts in other States already implementing the new minimum wage, by the new wage regime that was approved.

Comrade Edoka added that with the signing into law of the new minimum wage, the earlier notice of strike served on the State government has been suspended with immediate effect.

He commended the State government for signing the agreement with the mandate of immediate implementation, saying that the move will give civil servants in the State a new lease of life.

He therefore assured the state government of civil servants’ commitment to ensuring effective productivity that will assist the present administration in all sectors of the economy.

Present at the signing of the wage regime agreement was the State’s Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Ranti Ojo, State’s Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Adeiza Momoh-jimoh, Chairman, NULGE, Tade Adeyemi among others.
