The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, declined to take Yahaya’s plea on the ground that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter and directed the police to forward the case file to the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the case to March 9.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Liman Salisu (deceased), a neighbour to the defendant, had an argument with him over a bucket of water which resulted in a fist fight.
Insp Leo said, “In the course of the fight, the defendant went into the kitchen, picked a pestle and hit the Salisu on his head. Salisu slumped and died on the way to the hospital.
“The defendant earlier wrote and signed a confessional statement when he was brought to the police station.”
