The 39th edition of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Ramat Cup kicked off Sunday in the ancient city of Kano.
The U-16 championship is organised in honour of Nigeria’s former Military Head of State, Late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.

The host stake Kano, defending champions Kwara are among 20 states that are featuring in the tournament.
After the mandatory screening of participating players at the Kano Pillars Stadium in Sabon- gari, the competition commenced with champions Kwara State U-16 team beating their Ekiti State counterparts 3-0 while Nasarawa State and Kebbi settled for a 1-1 draw.
The Secretary-General of YSFON, Patrick Okpavuerhe said “You can expect a serious improvement on what was achieved last year. This has been the tradition over the years. We are always making progress.
“Kwara state are champions of the last two editions and they are the first to win the tournament back-to-back so we can expect an exciting competition this year because other teams will fight to dethrone them.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, who doubles as the president of YSFON will be the Special Guest at today’s opening ceremony to be held at the Kano Pillars Stadium in Sabon-gari.
