2023 election: Youths should remould the narrative

Despite Nigeria being the most populous country and business hub in Africa, it seems to appear below the table in terms of human and capital developments, this is a result of no- inclusion of youths in politics.

Surprisingly, from 1960 to date there is no young mind in the nation’s political system and there is no attempt to get any; the youth lack proper political orientation with the few engaged in the partisan politics due to personal gains sounds to be the causative agents.

Thus, Nigeria can never move forward without the youths for as the saying goes “youths are the backbone of the society”.

The point is, whoever wants to change the world must change his/her thoughts. Therefore, this is a clear message that the youths must do something to change the narrative else, we remain the roughnecks of the politicians forever.

It’s nearly two decades since the return of democracy in Nigeria but zilch has been achieved by the youths. The movers and shakers within the political circle divert the resources of the people for their consumption.

Painfully, they capitalized on youth joblessness to cajole a few among the gullible populace with less significant offers at their disposal and unnecessary projects like distributing motorcycles and cars to aides.

Shamelessly, N50 detergent, spaghetti, half measure of rice, Indomie, cubes of Maggi, salt, among others are enough for them to cajole the unprofitable minds to vote for them during elections.

Yet, since the advent of democracy, nothing has been gained from the prodigal politicians except lack of accountability and transparency, incompetence, and under-development.

To this end, a paradigm of excellence must be sought, a paragon of the administration who has a quality of leadership and can quantify problems as well as solve the problems.

Finally, the political drum is about to start beating soon, as such, we should make use of the opportunity judiciously to change the narrative; say no to political demagogues this time around, let’s vote wisely, and not be political thugs anymore. Our future is our priority.

Let’s think wise, vote wise!
