Butcher bags 5 years for assault, theft

An Abuja area court has sentenced a butcher, Bilia Zakari, to five years imprisonment for criminal force, assault, causing hurt and theft in Jiwa, Abuja.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ocho Jacob, told the court that the suspect on February 2, attacked the complainant, Awele Ruth, on her way to work, inflicted injuries on her hand and snatched her handbag containing phone and other valuables.

The suspected pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Muhammed Adamu Wakili, said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
