Nigeria’s survival depends on young inventors – FG

The federal government has said the survival of Nigeria depends on the ability to groom young talents to be scientists, engineers, inventors and entrepreneurs.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, made this known at the National Olympiads Award Ceremony held at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Sheda-Kwali, Abuja where the 2021 National Olympiads including 18 students that represented Nigeria in various international Olympiads were honoured.

Adamu who was represented by the Director, University Education at the ministry, Mrs Rakiya Gambo Ilyasu, said “Nigeria’s greatest asset is its human capital.”

The Director/Chief Executive of NMC, Prof Mebine Promise, said through the Olympiad competition, the centre had helped to identify, nurture and mentor the next generation of mathematical scientists that could use their knowledge and talent to contribute to nation-building.

He said the centre honoured the students to encourage them and others.

One of the awardees and the best female student in chemistry, Ikechi Favour Chinaza of Total Education Abia State, commended the centre for the honour.

The categories of the award included National Olympiads Award for senior mathematics, physics, chemistry, senior informatics, biology, junior science, junior mathematics and junior informatics.
