Speaking with some fans after the defeat, they said it was painful to see their country lose the opportunity of winning the AFCON trophy for the sixth time.
“The Indomitable Lions had many great occasions to score but they didn’t score. According to me, this is the best team Cameroon could have, so I congratulate them for reaching this level of the competition,” France Ashley said.
“I think we played well but these are two great African teams playing each other. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It is sad we lost,” Bisi Funche said.
“I am proud of the team, they showed passion and we won’t forget that they played so well throughout the competition. We are a bit sad of course but still proud of the team, another fan said.
In the same vein, some fans who were unable to bear the pain of losing the semi-finals clash to Egypt on Thursday night went to the streets of Yaoundé to destroy public properties.
“The cup cannot leave Cameroon, it belongs to us”, a fan was heard saying as a few of them went berserk.
Meanwhile, Cameroon national team manager António Conceição hailed his players following their semi-final defeat to Egypt.
The game between the two titans was a close one, with both teams failing to find the opponents’ nets in the entirety of the 120 minutes.
“We won’t be a side playing the final. Like 27 million Cameroonians, we are sad, but this is football,”Conceição told a press conference after the game. The game was close, but the players were exhausted in the second half.
“At the first half, however, we played well and we were close to scoring on more than one occasion. We practiced for penalty kicks, but in the end, everybody could miss. The players are only human after all, he said.
