Emir of Gaya receives staff of office

 Dignitaries Saturday stormed Gaya Town for the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the emir, Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya (Kirmau Mai Gabas).

The new emir succeeded his late father, Ibrahim Abdulkadir, who died on September 22 at the age of 91.

The appointment followed the recommendation of the Gaya Emirate Kingmakers after the presentation of three candidates from which the governor approved the appointment of Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya.

Until the appointment, Mr Ibrahim held the traditional title of Ciroman Gaya.

The Chief Imam of Gaya, Tijjani Jazuli Gaya, administered the oath of office to the emir who swore to uphold the mantle of righteous leadership and to be an exemplary leader and a father to the good people of Gaya Emirate.

While congratulating the new emir, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, preached peace and called for prayers for leaders and the country at large.

He enjoined the emir to live by the tenets of his office and in peace with his people, describing traditional rulers as purveyors of peace and progress.

He expressed confidence that the emir would sustain the legacy of his late father by upholding social justice in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

On his part, the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, enjoined the emir not to let the system down and shun all temptations that could lead to a compromise of the integrity of the traditional system.

He said his administration was ready to help in any way possible to uplift the traditional system.

In his inaugural address, the emir expressed his gratitude to the Almighty God for giving him the lifetime opportunity to attain the eminent traditional throne.

He also thanked the state government, the emirate, and the Sultan of Sokoto for finding him worthy to ascend the throne.

Dignitaries at the occasion included all the first class Kano State emirs, emirs from the northern states, and traditional rulers from the southern states.

They also included traditional title holders and highly places individuals from the Republic of Niger, Cameroon, Ghana, China, India, and Turkey among others.
