An Ilorin magistrates’ court has jailed one Ruwa Mojumba (40), a herder, for stealing 17 cows entrusted to him for rearing.
The convict was arraigned by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on one-count charge of theft contrary to Section 286 and punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code.
According to the NSCDC, “Investigation revealed that Mojumba was employed by Abubakar and his brother as a herder to take care of their cattle on a monthly payment of N10,000.
“Mojumba had already sold three out of the 17 cows at N600,000, while 14 were recovered.”
The prosecutor, Steve Tsado, prayed the court to allow justice to take its full course.
In his address to the court, Mojumba admitted to the charges but pleaded that the court temper justice with mercy.
He said he was not paid salary by his employer and that it was the devil that instigated him to commit the crime.
Magistrate Adam Mohammed convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment without an option of fine.
