Borno gov’t probes slitting of student’s throat

Borno State Government through the Ministry of Education has constituted a 5-man committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the slitting of the throat of a student of El-Kanemi Islamic Theology school Maiduguri, Jibril Sadi Mato, by his senior colleague.

In a letter addressed to the chairman of the committee who doubles as the Ministerial Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Sadiq Kadafur, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mohammed Mustapha Abatcha, directed the committee to investigate and arrive at the remote causes of the incident and suggest ways to curtail its recurrence.

The committee, which includes a representative of the Commissioner of Police, representative of the DSS, representative of the Commandant of the NSCDC and Director Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Hajiya Hadiza Nasiru Wali, has one week to submit its report to the state commissioner of education.

Daily Trust had reported on Friday that Umar Goni,  a Senior Secondary School 2 student, was arrested by operatives of the Borno State Police Command for allegedly attempting to murder one of his junior colleagues.

Goni was said to have used a razor blade to slit the throat of Jibrin Sadi Ramadan, his younger colleague, after a minor disagreement.
