Subsidy removal: Kano NLC, TUC ready for nationwide protest

The Kano State chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and that of Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Thursday declared their readiness to join the planned nationwide protest against the federal government.

The labour bodies have vowed to reject plans by the federal government to remove fuel subsidies.

The Kano NLC Chairman, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, made this known while addressing members of the state Congress.

He charged them to be ready for a mass protest scheduled for 27th January 2022 in compliance with the national body’s directive.

Minjibir, who lamented the government’s inconsistency in policy and program, insisted that Nigerian workers would deploy all available means to resist the withdrawal of fuel subsidies.

The protest, according to the NLC Chairman, will be confined within a designated area to avoid a possible hijack of the exercise by hoodlums.

Also speaking, the Kano TUC Chairman, Comrade Mansur Isa Adamu, who alleged sabotage in the management of fuel subsidy, disputed the federal government’s claims on monthly fuel consumption and spending on fuel subsidy in the country.

He added that members of the private sector are fully prepared to mobilize members to join the nationwide protest.
