Buni donates 100 computers to  BUK library

Yobe state Governor, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, on Wednesday donated 100 computers to Main Library of Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The donation, according to him, is part of the state government’s gesture towards educational development, especially with the current COVID-19 pandemic which necessitates digital migration of education.

Buni, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Muhammad Mikail, also called for collaboration in the area of staff development between the university and the tertiary institutions in his state.

He said, “These computers will go a long way in modernising teaching and learning, especially now that computers have become part of us.

“Even people living with disabilities could use these computers, and this is part of our little contribution towards modernising education in BUK, especially in its library.

“Let me also appeal to BUK as well as other second generation universities to collaborate with Yobe state higher institutions in the area of staff development. Nigerian universities have comparative advantage in this area of collaboration better than their foreign counterparts,” Buni added.

The Governor also said education has been part of his administration’s top priorities, which he said has now uplifted the state’s educational status among other states of the country.

Speaking on behalf of the university while receiving the computers, the BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, said the intervention came at a time when it is needed most.

“This donation is coming when BUK is undergoing accreditation by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), and when they came here, they were so impressed with what we are able to achieve in our libraries,” he said.

The VC then thanked the state government for the intervention, saying that it was based on a request letter the university sent to the Governor earlier, which he responded immediately.

Similarly, the university Librarian, Dr Musa Auyo, said the computers will help facilitate the e-services of the school library.
