Illegal tax collectors to face hard times

Benue State Government on Friday warned illegal tax collectors that their operations across the state would no longer be business as usual.

The newly sworn-in Special Adviser on Revenue and Taxation, Barrister Joshua Ogbole, in an interview with journalists in Makurdi, said an end had come for the illegality with his appointment because he would deploy all necessary provisions of the law to curb the ugly trend.

Ogbole noted that as a lawyer with over 20 years experience in the field of taxation law, he would, among other initiatives, encourage general revenue generation because the federation account that states depended on fully had become a problem.

“We must look inwards. Benue has more than 80 per cent agrarian environment which we must encourage and build.”

He added, “We must stamp our feet on the ground to say no to illegal tax collection. Tax collection must be brought to the table for the use of all.”
