AFCON: Jamilu Collins arrives Super Eagles camp day before battle with Egypt

Jamilu Collins of SC Padeborn 07, has arrived at the Super Eagles camp in Cameroon a day before their first group match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

With Collins’ arrival, the number of players in the Nigerian team’s camp is now 27.

It is doubtful for the defender to participate in the first match against the Egyptians.

Venezia FC of Italy’s defender, Tyrone Ebuehi, had joined the Super Eagles camp on Saturday to give the team more options in defence.

Odion Ighalo is the only invited player who has not arrived at the Super Eagles camp as of Monday.

Ighalo is certain to miss the competition as his Saudi Arabian club failed to release him for the soccer fiesta.

Victor Osihmen and Emmanuel Dennis have since been dropped from the team as their clubs – Napoli and Watford – failed to release them for the championship.

The three strikers were to deliver the goals for the Super Eagles at the AFCON but the team will now have to look up to Union Berlin’s man of the moment, Taiwo Awoniyi, Almeria’s Sadiq Umar and Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City to lead the line.

Nigeria’s first match is against Egypt on 11th January 2022.
