Foundation empowers widows, orphans in Taraba

No fewer than 103 widows and orphans have been trained in various skills by Ramat Foundation in Mutum Biyu, the headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The training which covered tailoring, soap making, knitting and perfum making among others  lasted for three months.

The chairperson of the foundation, Ramatu Bello, said during the graduation ceremony of the trainees that the foundation targeted widows and orphans for its empowerment training and welfare programme because of their disadvantaged position.

The chairperson stated that the foundation had also reached out to prison inmates in Mutum Biyu and assisted them with foodstuff and also built a mini bridge linking Jantaro and Mallam Abba communities in Mutum Biyu area.

She further revealed that the foundation also fenced and renovated primary schools in Mutum Biyu town.

She called on individuals and government to assist the foundation with funds and training materials  to enable the foundation to train more people.

The chief of Mutum Biyu, Justice Dani Suleiman(rtd) commended the foundation for targeting the vulnerable group for training.

He called on wealthy individuals and organisations to support  widows and orphans in society and encouraged the foundation to bring more vulnerable people under its skill training to make them self-reliant.

He urged parents in the chiefdom to pay more attention to girl child education, adding that the number of girls in schools in the chiefdom was discouraging.
