Kano gov’t launches rural electrification scheme

Kano State government, under the Ministry for Rural and Community Development, has launched a rural electrification scheme known as ‘Stand Alone’ in Gabasawa Local Government Area of the state. 

The scheme, which is a solar home system being run by Shenzhen Lemi Technology Development and Lemi Renewable Electricity Limited, is targeted at small rural communities with at least 100 settlements, and that the system is to be paid over a period. 

Speaking while launching the scheme, the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, said it would also provide jobs for the teeming youths across the state as well as boost the socio-economic status of the rural dwellers.

He added that to achieve the objective, the state government has signed an agreement with the company that will provide solar facilities. 

He reassured on the state government’s readiness of providing all the necessary social amenities across the 44 local government areas. 

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, represented by the Special Adviser on Local Governments, Alhaji Laminu Sani, commended the foresight of the state government in bringing the development to the people. 

He called on the people to utilise the opportunity provided as it’s cheaper than electric power and generators. 

The District Head of Gabasawa, Magajin Garin Gaya, Alhaji Sani Dawaki Gabasawa, thanked the government for choosing his domain to benefit from the programme and assured on the support and cooperation of all the traditional rulers to achieve the goal.
