Man arraigned for cow theft, murder threat in Ekiti

A chief magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has arraigned a 45-year-old Shehu Hassan, for allegedly stealing a cow and threatening to kill one Suleiman Mohammed.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court  that the defendant on or about  December 19,  2021, at about 2am, at Itapaji-Ekiti within Ikole Ekiti Magistrate District, did steal one cow valued at the sum of  N500,000 property of Suleiman Mohammed.

Inspector Okunade also said on the same date, the defendant threatened to kill Suleiman Mohammed.

 He said the defendant thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 390(9) 86 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

 Counsel to the defendant, Tope Salami, urged the court to grant his client bail, adding that he would comply with the bail conditions.

The chief magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court adjourned the case until February 9, 2022.
