Now that ASCOEA has gotten a new female provost

Professor Asabe Sadiya Mohammed from Department of English Literary Studies of Bauchi State University, Gadau, has been appointed as a new provost of the Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare, by  Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, to handle the college in the next four years. Her appointment will take effect on 1st January, 2022.

The newly appointed female provost is the first woman in the history of the college to steer it since its creation in 1977.  Perhaps, Professor Asabe has stood out of her male contenders presented to the governor so as to promote gender parity or egalitarianism and beef up a strong sense of belonging for our overlooked women in the state.

Professor Asabe is the first female professor in English  in Bauchi State since its creation. She is a humble, amiable and softhearted woman.

Every spotless democratic system of government abhors marginalization of any group of societies including women. It also longs for full participation of professor leadership and politics. So, the appointment of Professor Asabe has indicated that Governor Bala Mohammed is indeed an advocate of fostering a strong sense of egalitarianism or gender equality.

Now the long-awaited full participation of women in both elective political and appointive public service positions has been taking shape in the state.

Before she assumes her office, I would like to bring to her attention that lack of internal roads, water drainage systems and lack of electricity supply are among major problems bedevilling the college. These challenges impact students’ academic performance negatively in so many ways. The massive high-quality buildings of the college are now in dire jeopardy due to lack of drainage systems culminating in water erosion across the college. The immediate past administration had pledged to construct a 5km internal road in the college but so far the promise remains unfulfilled.

A Chilean journalist and author Mrs. Isabel Allende once said, “A man does what he can; a woman does what a man cannot”. So, I call on the newly appointed provost to leave no stone unturned to appeal those aforementioned nail-biting problems of the college to the governor as soon as she assumes her office. Provision of solar street lights for the college cannot be overemphasised.

I will conclude by congratulating provost Asabe on clinching this great new appointment that deserves her. She should accept it from the bottom of heart as it was preordained and written on the preserved Tablet of God prior to the creation of this universe. We are so optimistic that she will excel in it and we pray for a safe and successful tenure for her in her office.
