She said the suspects were arrested and the cars impounded under the enforcement of Regulation 228 of the Road traffic act on the prohibition of illegal car races and other similar offences.

The PPRO said the enforcement team, led by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Mr Babaji Sunday, made the arrests and impounded the cars on Sunday.

She said the suspects were arrested around Muhammadu Buhari Way, by Nicon Insurance where they had converged for business as usual.

Daily Trust reported on Thursday that the command had ordered all its Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and supervisory area commanders in the territory to ensure full enforcement of the prohibition of all kinds of car and speed races in their respective Areas of Responsibility (AoR).

The order, according to the CP, followed public outcry on the recklessness, risk to lives, damage to personal property and critical national infrastructure caused by illegal car racing, acceleration contests, speed competitions or tests of physical endurance, amongst others, in the nation’s capital.

He also warned that any person or group caught organizing or participating in the prohibited car racing event would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
