The year 2021 is coming to an end and within the year many prominent Nigerians died; among them politicians, captains of industry, scholars and traditional rulers. Daily Trust chronicled some of them.
Ahmed Joda
He was an elder statesman who served as a permanent secretary under the military government of Gen Yakubu Gowon in the 1970s.
He died on August 13, 2021, at the age of 91 in Yola, Adamawa State.
Soun Ogbomoso
Ọba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, was the Soun Ogbomosho for 48 years until his death on December 12, 2021.
During his reign, he built a modern palace and facilitated the development of Ogbomoso into a more industrious town. He was the longest serving soun.
Sani Dangote
He was a Nigerian businessman and younger brother of the wealthiest person in Africa, Aliko Dangote, and vice president of the Dangote Group. He died on November 14, 2021, in the United States.
Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru
He was the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). He died in an air crash four months after his appointment as COAS at the age of 54
Col Aminu Isah Kontagora
He was a former military administrator of Benue and Kano states between. Col Kontagora who was said to have died from COVID-19 complications on January 10, 2021, at the age of 65.
He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in 2015 in Niger State.
AVM Nsikak Eduok
He was a former Chief of Air the Staff (CAS) and one-time aviation minister under the military administration of Gen Sani Abacha. He died on January 6, 2021, at the age 74 after a long battle with kidney complications.
Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu
He was born on November 3, 1943, and was a former military governor of old Imo State. He died on January 13, 2021, at the age of 77.
Jubril Martins-Kuye
He served as Minister of state for Finance under Presedent Olusegun Obasanjo and Minister of commerce under President Goodluck Jonathan. He died on January 17, at the age of 79. He was the PDP candidate for the Ogun State gubernatorial election in 1999.
Abdullahi Ibrahim
He was a former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice during the regime of Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar. He also served as Minister of Education, Science and Technology, and Minister for Transport during the military regime of Gen Muhammadu Buhari.
He died on January 24, at the age of 74 from COVID-19 complications.
