NDE disburses N5m loan to 50 women in Enugu

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has given a N5 million loan to 50 women in Enugu after they were trained on food processing, interior decorations and event management and makeover and gele (head tie) tying.

The women were trained under the Women Empowerment Collaboration Scheme (WECS) platform with each beneficiary getting N100,000 to put their skills to practice.

NDE said it is also training 25 youths on solar energy skills facilitated by the Abuja Graduate School.

At the opening ceremony of the solar energy training yesterday, the NDE Enugu State Coordinator,  Chief Donatus Azubuike who represented the Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said the training was replicated in all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.

According to Azubuike, the training was offering them an uncommon opportunity they could not have afforded on their own which was being delivered by a corporate organization, Abuja Graduate School as part of Mr President’s agenda to lift 100 million people out of poverty by the year 2030.

For the women, Azubuike told the beneficiaries that the event was a landmark in the history of the Directorate, noting that this was the first time the NDE achieved 100 per cent resettlement of those trained and those resettled or assisted with loans.

Representative of the Director Small Scale Enterprises Department, Ms Carol Eluwa, said there is a six-month moratorium before they can start repaying the N100,000 loan that each beneficiary got.
