Retired armed forces veterans in Kaduna staged a peaceful protest over the nonpayment of their pension arrears and Security Debarment Allowances (SDA).
The protesters, armed with placards with various inscriptions, stormed the government house to submit a complaint letter to the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
The leader of the protesters, Auwal Aliyu, said they were at the government house to appeal to the state governor to help forward their complaint letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the federal government approved the implementation of the consequential adjustment to pension beneficiaries occasioned by the new minimum wage of 2019 but they were yet to be paid.
“All we are doing involved both for the living and dead among us because the widows of our colleagues are also in the protest. We, the retired armed forces veterans are suffering. As we speak, our 24 months pension arrears approved by the federal government are yet to be paid to us,” he said.
The protesters warned that neglecting veterans would make them vulnerable to activities of miscreants.
