Disquiet over Akume’s billboard opposite PDP headquarters

There is disquiet over a billboard promoting a former Governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume, as a National Chairmanship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The billboard is generating reactions among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members because it is placed right opposite the national headquarters of the leading opposition party.

Passersby have continued to look at the billboard of a leading politician running for a key position in the ruling APC projecting himself in front of the office of a rival political party.

One of the members of the PDP, Ibu Thomas, wondered why Senator Akume’s national chairmanship campaign billboard would stand right opposite the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

He said: “In political campaigns, especially in intra-party contests, the message is usually for party members and supporters of the same party/affiliation.

“So, what is Senator Akume’s campaign billboard doing at the headquarters of the PDP?

“Is Senator home-sick and wants to return to the PDP? He should be bold and courageous to step in instead of hiding in the shadows of a billboard.

“Senator George Akume was elected into office as Governor of Benue State between 1999 and 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“He left the PDP for the APC after completing his eight years tenure in PDP.

“Today, he is in limbo in the APC and his billboard opposite the PDP tells his plea.”
