PAWED tasks Edo gov’t on women empowerment

The Partnership for Women and Economic Development (PAWED) has charged the Edo State Government to increase funding for women’s economic empowerment in the state.

The coordinator, Edo State PAWED Advocacy Coalition Group, Bliss Ojeruse, gave the charge on Friday during a courtesy visit to the permanent secretary in the state Ministry of Wealth Creation, Cooperative and Employment, Mr Ediowe Joel.

She, however, called for coordination of women’s economic empowerment programmes in inter-ministerial, interdepartmental and interagency collaboration for effective implementation and to avoid duplications.

While calling for more opportunities for the women, she stressed the need to reduce social-cultural issues and practices that hinder women’s involvement in the ownership of property, such as houses, lands, among others.

Responding, Joel said the state government was implementing lots of programmes for the benefit of women.
